Inflation rate gallops to historic 48.35% in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Index for the current week ending May 4, 2023 has been increased by 1.05% whereas the year-on-year trend in inflation depicts a surge of 48.35%, on Friday.

According to the data provided by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the weekly inflation has galloped to 1.5% while the average inflation in the country has reached a historic high at 48.35%.

According to the data, the prices of 30 items have increased while a decrease in the prices of 9 items has been registered during the current week.

While, prices of 12 daily use items did not register any change.

During the current week, the prices of food items including chicken registered an increase of Rs8.91/kg; potato Rs 3.99/kg; milk powder Rs3.81/kg; dal chana Rs1.96/kg; dal masoor Rs1.83/kg; egg Rs1.81/dozen; and mutton Rs1.71/kg.

The non-food items whose prices went up during this week included ladies sandals Rs14.31 per pair and washing soap Rs1.27/kg.

However, the prices of food items which registered a decrease are included: onion Rs16.569/kg, garlic Rs3.44/kg; and tomatoes Rs3.41.

Besides these items, the rates of diesel, ghee and cooking oil have also been decreased.
