Is the Ukraine war turning global?

Russia has recently hinted that it was moving swiftly towards revoking ratification for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) after President Vladimir Putin held out the possibility of resuming nuclear testing after almost three decades.

According to the Russian President, Russia’s nuclear doctrine is an accomplished strategy but Russia should look at revoking ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) as the United States is a signatory to the treaty but Washinton did not ratify the accord over past decades.

Meanwhile, the Speaker at the state doma has confirmed that the Council will discuss the issue of revoking the ratification of the treaty, as America and Europe have unleashed a war against their country. The Russia-Ukraine hostility in Eastern Europe not only remained intensified but gained new heights and accomplished new milestones in the history of global wars with every passing day.

Russia added the worst ruthlessness and the newest barbarism in its war manoeuvres against innocent civilians while Ukrainian forces inflicted heavy losses on their adversary in recent weeks.

The conflict has seriously disturbed the strategic balance in Eastern Europe, as the North Atlantic Alliance has bolstered its presence in the region, and European countries have significantly increased their defence spending to deter potential aggression from Moscow.

At the same time, Ukraine’s bid for NATO membership and the West’s limitless economic, military and diplomatic support for Kiyv have paved the way for the Moscow-Beijing partnership against their common adversaries. Furthermore, persistent setbacks on the military front prompted the Kremlin to revive its relationship with Pyongyang to strengthen its defences along with unfolding the long-closed chapter of nuclear testing which undoubtedly thrashes world peace and stability.

The strategic impact of the Russia-Ukraine war continues to evolve, and its long-term consequences will depend on how the conflict ultimately plays out and the actions of various stakeholders including Russia, Ukraine, the United States and its allies, which are resolutely stood beside Kiyv and adding to the hostility through all possible means/resources.

The CTBT is a crucial international treaty aimed at preventing nuclear testing to curb the arms race and ensure global peace and stability. If Russia were to revoke its ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), it could have a significant impact on global security, together with an escalation of a fresh arms race, weakening global non-proliferation regime, erosion of trust and undermining other multilateral agreements such as Nuclear Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and MFCT etc that will undermine the security landscapes in the world.

As of now, the Ukrainian conflict is gradually heading toward a war scenario in which both sides would eventually be ready to use Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) either chemical or nuclear arsenals against each other to achieve a decisive victory or fail their enemy. The principle of preemptive war was first coined by the United States and the West to weigh a war against Iraq which encouraged Moscow to launch a special military operation against a sovereign nation. Presently, warring Blocs have turned Ukrainian land into a global battlefield and a weapons testing laboratory for their modern arsenals.

Western nations are continuously pouring their latest weapons into the conflict which prompted Putin’s thirst for allies. In response to West’s collision with Kiyv, Russia forged a strategic partnership with Beijing, sealed a weapons deal with North Korea and uncovered a long-range cruise missile together with harnessing its nuclear arsenal.

All these developments will surely not promote peace and stability rather those deadly actions would weigh destruction and ruin the global peace. It is high time that the United Nations and the global community take notice of the devastating actions of belligerent nations which might levelled unimaginable cost to the world. Hence, diplomacy and dialogue are the only way forward to resist war hysteria and settle down hostility, otherwise, the hegemonism of certain states and the battle for global supremacy will sabotage world peace in the future.
