KABUL: Justifying the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, U.S. President Donald Trump said Russia was “right” to invade Afghanistan.

“The reason Russia was in Afghanistan was because terrorists were going into Russia. They were right to be there. The problem is, it was a tough fight, and literally they went bankrupt. They went into being called Russia again as opposed to being called the Soviet Union,” Donald Trump said during a Cabinet meeting Wednesday.

In a broad attempt to justify withdrawing American troops from Afghanistan, Trump said Russia, India and Pakistan were present in Kabul to carry out the war. The U.S. was located at a distance of about 6000 miles away from Afghanistan, he said.

Meanwhile, the Afghan government defended jihad of Afghan people against the former Soviet Union and asked the U.S. government to explain some statements.

According to a press release issued by the Afghan presidential office, after the Russian invasion the Afghan people stood up and launched jihad to defend their sacred soil.

The world had complete consensus about condemning the Russian invasion and supporting the jihad announced by the Afghan people against the former Soviet Union, the press release stated.

The United Nations issued joint decision against the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, the press release said. “The foreign ministers of 34 Muslim countries issued a joint statement in which the former Soviet Union was termed on fault. They stressed on unconditional and forthwith withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan,” the press release said.

The press release stated that the all the U.S. presidents had condemned the Russian invasion of Afghanistan besides supporting the jihad launched by the Afghan people. The Afghan people did not carry out any suicide attacks during jihad, the press release said. Similarly, the press release stated that they did not create any threats for other countries.

“There is a difference between remarks and formal policy of a country. We have demanded explanation from the government of friend state of United States of America through diplomatic channels about some of its policies, and hope that it would be shared with us soon,” the press release said.

Relations with the world are based on mutual interests, the press release stated. The international forces are stationed in Afghanistan are not only for Afghanistan rather they are deployed here for the security of world and these friend countries, the press release added. (AIP)
