Khalid holds out olive branch to Sattar

F.P. Report

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui on Tuesday held out an olive branch to disgruntled party leader Farooq Sattar to set aside differences and assume charge as party convener.

Speaking at a press conference, the MQM-P leader set a deadline for Sattar and other party leaders to return before April 15 or 16 to assume their new responsibilities in the party or else their worth what he said would be that of a party worker.

He said a number of meetings took place with Farooq Sattar, not only at the latter’s PIB residence but also elsewhere. Siddiqui said some people wanted to weaken the party taking an advantage of the infighting within the party. The Bahadurabad always conveyed a positive message to Sattar despite all differences, he added.

The MQM leader explained that the Coordination Committee as per the party constitution, can remove a convener, but a convener had no powers to dissolve the committee.

On Sunday, Farooq Sattar while speaking to the media hinted at working out a formula to end the ongoing friction within the party to keep it united ahead of the upcoming general elections. He said whatever has been ongoing within the party was unfortunate and that he was making efforts to make the party a unified force.
