Landsliding kills five persons in last three days in Hazara

ABBOTTABAD: At least five persons lost their lives due to land sliding triggered by the heavy downpour and snowfall in Hazara division over the last three days. Two motorcyclists buried alive under the debris of land sliding in the area of Sheetal Kohistan when they were going to their native town.

The motorcyclists were identified as Naeem son of Abdullah and Rafeen son of Sakwat resident of Harban village. Local police and the villagers have started rescue operation but owing to continuous heavy rain and snowfall the rescuers were facing a lot of difficulties.

In another incident at the Kehla Mohall Usman Abbottabad, three persons lost their lives when heavy boulders fell on a house at 4 am where 16 years old Sardar Khalid, 12 Years old Muhammad Muhbashar and their mother those were sleeping died at the spot.

Rescue 1122, police and locals have reached the spot and recovered the dead bodies from the debris and shifted them district headquarters hospital Abbottabad where after completion of legal formalities the dead bodies were handed over to the family. Deputy Commissioner Battagram Arshad Qayum Barki along with Assistant Commissioner Alai Shabeer Ahmed Akash visited the snowfall and rain affected areas of Tehsil Alai and observed the snow clearance from the roads.

He also visited the Tehsil Headquarter Hospital and checked the attendance of the employees and directed them to prepare for any sort of emergency situation. Arshad Qayum Barki later visited the bazars and checked the stock position of food items and others, while AC Shabeer Ahmed Akash briefed the DC Battagram about the measures taken by the administration for the provision of food items in bulk to the masses during the blockage of roads owing to snowfall and rain.

Owing to the continuous torrential rains and heavy snowfall in all across Hazara division many roads and communication links were blocked in district Abbottabad, Manhsera, Torghar, Battagram and Kohistan where people and commuter were trapped in the houses and on the roads.
