NEW YORK: Two Madonna fans are taking legal action against the iconic singer, alleging she was consistently more than two hours late for a recent New York show.
According to court documents, the show was scheduled to start at 20:30 EST on all three nights, but each time it began after 22:30, concluding around 01:00.
The complainants, Michael Fellows and Jonathan Hadden, state they wouldn’t have purchased tickets had they known about the significant delays.
The lawsuit, directed at Live Nation and the Barclays Center, accuses them of false advertising, negligent misrepresentation, and unfair trade practices.
Fellows and Hadden attended the show on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, and note in legal documents that other nights at the same venue, on December 14 and 16, also reportedly started more than two hours late.
The court papers emphasize that “many ticket holders who attended concerts on a weeknight had to get up early to go to work and/or take care of their family responsibilities the next day.”
The plaintiffs are seeking unspecified damages.
The court documents also highlight Madonna’s history of tardiness at previous concerts, citing examples from her 2016 Rebel Heart Tour, her 2019-2020 Madame X Tour, and prior tours.
This isn’t the first time Madonna has faced such complaints. In 2019, a fan sued over a delay for a US show, but voluntarily dismissed the case a month later.
In the same year, Madonna had shared a post of her live on stage, in which she told fans: “There’s something that you all need to understand. And that is, that a queen is never late.”
Madonna’s sold-out Celebration tour marked her 40th anniversary, featuring over 40 hits from her illustrious career. Despite health challenges in 2023, she remains a force in the music industry.
