Maryam Nawaz’s cabinet will initially consist of 16 ministers

LAHORE: PML-N nominated Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s cabinet will initially consist of 16 ministers, on Wednesday.

At the start only important ministries including education, law, health, information and broadcasting will be announced. PML-N allies will also be included in the government.

Maryam Nawaz’s cabinet will include Malik Ahmad Khan, Bilal Yasin, Khawaja Imran Nazir, Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Mian Mujtabi Shujaur Rehman, Uzma Bukhari and Rana Iskandar Hayat.

Moreover, Hina Parvez Butt, Rahila Khadim Hussain, Khalil Tahir Sindhu and other members of the Punjab Assembly will be part of the cabinet.

8 members of the Punjab Cabinet will be from South Punjab. Ministers from PML-N’s ally PML-Q will also be included in the cabinet. The PML-N was in talks to include Pakistan People’s Party in the cabinet.

However, the final decision regarding handing over the ministries to the allied political parties will be taken in the second session of negotiations.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif was expected to gain the support of more than a simple majority in Punjab Assembly for the slot of Chief Minister. With the inclusion of independent members, PML-N has received the support of more than 150 members in the Punjab Assembly. A simple majority in the Punjab Assembly consists of 149 members.
