PML-N spells reasons for Nawaz Sharif not becoming prime minister

F.P. Report

LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Wednesday spelled the reasons behind party Quaid and former three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif for not availing the chance to become premier for the fourth time.

Maryam Nawaz, who was nominated for the Punjab chief minister slot, has made it crystal clear that there was “no truth” in assumptions that PML-N supreme Nawaz Sharif is staying away from politics because he did not choose to be the party’s candidate for the premiership.

In a post uploaded on X platform, Maryam Nawaz said, “During the next five years, not only would he actively participate in politics but also lead his governments in the Centre and Punjab.”

Maryam further said that Nawaz Sharif had “made it clear in his election speeches that he would not be a part of any coalition government”.

PML-N senior leader Senator Irfan Siddiqui also said that there were some “personal reasons” for Nawaz Sharif not become a prime minister again. “Everything is not going on as desired, but some decisions have to be taken,” he maintained.

He said that such a party and some people have entered country’s political system who do not want to join hands with anyone. “If no party is in a position to form government on its own then the National Assembly will be dissolved. And, if that happens, would there be elections in 90 days?” he raised the question.

PPP not demanding president’s slot: Rana Sana

PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah has said that the PPP did not demand the post of president.

In a statement, Rana Sanaullah said that Shehbaz Sharif has the experience of working with allies and he would work better with allies while Asif Ali Zardari understands the things and he will cooperate in this regard.

He said neither PPP demanded the post of president of Pakistan nor did PML-N made any commitment to the party. He expressed the hope that JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman will become a part of the next coalition government.

On the other hand, Ahsan Iqbal said that PPP will join the cabinet, as only one partner – PML-N – will not carry all the burden. He further said that Punjab has an experienced team to guide Maryam Nawaz.
