Mother Language Day observes in Jamrud

JAMRUD: To observe International Mother Language Day, a walk was conducted here in Jamrud on Wednesday. The activity was organized under the auspices of Jamrud Pakhto Adabi Jirga and scores of Pashto language lovers, poets, students, Journalists and political workers made sure their presence.

The participants while holding placards inscribed with slogans in favor of importance of motherly tongue, carried out walk from Jamrud press club to Bab-e-Khyber to create awareness pertaining importance of motherly language. Shedding light on importance of mother tongue Professor Dr Tawab Shah Masroor said that language was not only a source of inter -communication but also an identity of every nation.

“All languages of the world are important from one way or the other but being Pakhtun, Pashto is symbol of culture with rich vocabulary and with speakers of millions across the world”, Dr.Tawab added and saying but ironically national and international level no efforts were made for its progress. All the language experts unanimously united on the single point that to appraise new generation of importance of its mother language, education to the children should be given in their own mother tongue, he maintained. It is to be mentioned here that in 1999 UNESCO in unanimous proclamation declared 21st of February as Mother Language Day throughout the world.
