Murad for reconstruction of roads in PPP former stronghold Lyari

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expressing his displeasure has directed project director Karachi Package to expedite construction of U-turn at Shahrah-e-Faisal; otherwise he would take strict action.

This he said while presiding over a meeting to review some schemes of Karachi Package which are delayed for one or the other reasons. The meeting was attended by Chairman P&D Mohammad Waseem, Principal Secretary to CM Sohail Rajput, Secretary Finance Hassan Naqvi, PD Karachi Package Niaz Soomro and Engineer Karachi Package Khalid Masroor.

The chief minister said that the work on the construction of U-Turn at Nathakhan Bridge has not been taken up so far. As a result, traffic jam at that area has become order of the day. “Do you have any idea how much problems people in the area are facing, he asked and directed the Chairman P&D Mohammad Waseem to visit the area along with PD and engineer of the project and get the work started and report him.

It may be noted that the chief minister has already released Rs214.466 million for construction of U-Turn and other works. “When I have released you funds why the work has been delayed,” he asked and sent his team led by Chairman P&D Mr Waseem to see the situation and report him.

The chief minister also said that the Underpass at Submarine Chowrangi has not been completed so far. “I want to open its one track on December 15 and on the same day would perform stone lying ceremony of Flyover at Sunset Boulevard,” he said and added that the work on Sunset Boulevard flyover must be completed within three months of the start of the work. “Those who cannot follow my deadline [for completion of works] should find out work for them some where else,” he said and went on saying “I am a professional engineer and would completed the leftover work personally,” he said.

He directed the Local Government Department to maintain the beauty of Shahrah-e-Faisal by planting more plants, law and other greenery. “Shahrar-e-Faisal is the face of the city and it must be beautiful, neat and clean and illuminated,” he said.

Principal Secretary Sohial Rajput told the chief minister that he had held a meeting with some architects for face uplifting of the areas falling in front of Jinnah Terminal on Shahrah-e-Faisal. “The architects would start beautification work within 10 days,” he said. On this the chief minister said that the areas of flyover on Shahrah-e-Faisal at Jinnah Terminal and the apartments along the road must be made worth looking. “When any person come down from the airport he must feel the beauty of the city,” he said.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed the PD Karachi Package to start survey of the roads of old city of Lyari such as Lee Market, Mitha Dar, Khara Dar, Jhuna Market, Cheel Chowk, Kalakot and other areas and “I am allocating Rs600 million for the reconstruction of the roads,” he said and further directed the PD to reconstruct their drainage system also.

He also directed the PD to reconstruct the roads leading to Jamaat Khan at Kharadar. This are should be also be uplifted with reconstruction and renovation of different structure lying there. “I would review the progress of the works I have decided to take up today,” he said.
