NAB references: Witnesses record statements against Nawaz, family

ISLAMABAD: The accountability court recorded statements of the four witnesses against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family on Wednesday. The accountability court resumed hearing of three corruption cases on Wednesday against Sharif and his family.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and MNA Safdar attended the hearing despite that both Nawaz and Maryam being exempted from appearance.

Four witnesses of the prosecutors have been summoned today to record their statements after two witnesses recorded their statements at the last hearing and were cross-examined.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed three corruption references against Nawaz Sharif and his family in light of the Supreme Court’s July 28 judgment in the Panama Papers case.

Nawaz Sharif and his sons Hussain and Nawaz are nominated in three references while Maryam and MNA Safdar are accused in one case.

MNA Safdar also attended the hearing and he arrived after the former premier and his daughter.

Maryam Nawaz submitted a request in the court as it resumed hearing of the case and requested to change her exemption period. Maryam seeks exemption from court from December 5, 2017 to January 5, 2018.

Nawaz’s counsel, Khwaja Harris, completed the cross-examination of NAB’s witness, Mohammad Rasheed, after he recorded his statement.
