ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif Friday wrote a letter to the interior secretary for the provision of security to all parliamentarians on April 3.
It is reported that the opposition leader demanded that the interior secretary provide foolproof security to all the National Assembly members on April 3—day for voting on the no-confidence motion.
“It is the legal responsibility of the interior secretary to provide security to all the parliamentarians,” reads the letter.
Shehbaz Sharif also quoted in the letter Prime Minister Imran Khan’s statement of calling in 100,000 party workers on the no-confidence day.
The PML-N president also sent a copy of the letter each to commissioner Islamabad, deputy commissioner and inspector general of police.
Earlier, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Ahmed Chaudhry had tweeted about enhancing the security of Prime Minister Imran Khan to avert the possible assassination of him.
The information minister had maintained that reports of the security agencies unveiled a plot of the prime minister’s assassination.
“Following these reports, the government has decided to beef up the security of the prime minister,” he had added.
It merits mentioning that the government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seems to have been struggling very hard for its survival amid the opposition’s efforts for the success of the no-confidence motion.
The much talked about no-trust move has now been turned into a political controversy with the prime minister terming it a foreign-imported conspiracy to destabilise the country.
