Opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif leaves for London to see grandchildren

LAHORE: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif has departed for London early on Wednesday morning to see his grandchildren and to undergo a medical checkup at a London hospital.

According to details, the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz departed for London to see his daughter-in-law and ailing grand daughter who was suffering from heart complications. Shehbaz will also undergo a medical checkup at a London hospital.

Shehbaz Sharif tweeted, Shehbaz said: “I am going to take a quick visit to London to see my grandchildren & go through my own medical checkup and return soon.”

“Because of Judicial grace exercised by Honourable courts, I am now on bail and my name has been taken off the ECL. In these circumstances”.

The PML-N president said: “Allah blessed my younger son with a boy while my elder son got blessed with a baby girl after 20 years of marriage. Little girl had to undergo major heart surgery in London within a week of birth. I haven’t seen both of them yet because of my detention and my name being on ECL.”

Earlier, on April 4, the Interior Ministry had removed the name of the opposition leader from the exit control list (ECL) on the directions of Lahore High Court.

According to a notification issued by the ministry, Shehbaz’s name has been eliminated from the no-fly list as directed by the LHC in its order of March 26.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president had been placed on the ECL on February 22 after the recommendation of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and approval of the federal cabinet.
