Tehreek-e-Istiqlal argued parties for political reconciliation

PESHAWAR: Tehreek-e-Istiqlal Central President Rehmat Khan Wardak emphasized the necessity of fostering a politics of restraint and tolerance. He asserted that the rights of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cannot be attained through coercion and intimidation, urging the PTI provincial government to pursue prudence and moderation in securing provincial rights, during a meeting with senior journalists at the Peshawar Press Club on Saturday.

Wardak highlighted the significance of political reconciliation for the PTI, emphasizing that while the party garnered a sympathetic vote in the recent general elections, failure to engage in reconciliation politics could jeopardize its electoral support. He stressed the need for a shift in governance style and political system, advocating for the adoption of proportional representation, a model utilized in 74 countries worldwide.

Additionally, Wardak underscored the imperative of making agriculture profitable and addressing farmers’ concerns as a priority to safeguard food self-sufficiency.

He firmly stated that political stability is indispensable for economic stability, condemning any actions that sow chaos and corruption as detrimental to the nation and its people.

Expressing regret over recent incidents, Wardak decried the spreading of hatred against the army as anti-national. He advocated for the construction of both small and large dams, including the controversial Kalabagh Dam, as crucial steps towards national development and prosperity. Wardak urged political parties to unite in advocating for proportional representation and system change.

He proposed strategic shifts in trade policies, suggesting the procurement of petroleum products from countries offering them at competitive prices in local and Chinese currency. Wardak also endorsed agreements with neighboring nations for barter trade, reducing dependency on the dollar and fostering economic stability.
