Pakistan, UK may enhance trade ties: Sadiq

ISLAMABAD:  London Mayor Sadiq Khan has said that there is lot of scope for promoting trade, economic and cultural ties between Pakistan and United Kingdom.

He was addressing a joint press conference here today with Minister for Commerce and Textile Pervaiz Malik after formal talks.

Sadiq Khan  expressed hope that the business interactions between Islamabad and London would be further increased with further cooperation at different levels.

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said close ties between Pakistan and Britain are very strong and these relations are of friendly nature adding that both Pakistan and United Kingdom have cooperated in various fields including education, tourism, culture and security. He said London is always open for professional Pakistanis belonging to different fields.

He said the close relations of London with Pakistan will be strengthened in future due to cooperation between the two countries at various levels.

The Minister for Commerce and Textile Muhammad Pervaiz Malik expressed the hope that United Kingdom would continue to provide duty free access to Pakistani products under GSP plus scheme even after its exit from European Union so that Pakistan could get full benefit from the available business opportunities in UK.

The Commerce Minister said with the improvement in the economic conditions of Pakistan, more jobs are being improved.

He said with the measures taken by the present government there has been women empowerment in the country and the government has been able to achieve the goals of sustainable development in the country.

The Commerce Minister there has been great achievement in bilateral trade between Pakistan and United Kingdom and the business interactions and cooperation between the traders from Islamabad and London have shown a very positive trend, especially in the last couple of years of the present government.

He said there has been better cooperation and close trade ties between the two countries in different fields but still there is plenty of scope existed for further cooperation in various fields. The Commerce Minister Pervaiz Malik asked Mayor of London to send business delegations to Pakistan for investment in the country and promote business to business relations.

The Minister said British entrepreneurs and investors can make investment in the fields of infrastructure and energy in Pakistan besides projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as there is great potential for profit in these sectors.

Replying to a question about the talks, the Commerce Minister said they exchanged views on increasing cooperation in all fields especially to provide more incentives to the British investors to invest in Pakistan.
