Pakistani oranges reach Russia

ISLAMABAD (INP): Trucks bearing Pakistani oranges reached two Russian cities in what is being hailed as an important milestone for regional trade.

The operation, carried out by the National Logistics Cell, involved a total of 16 trucks that travelled from Sargodha in Punjab to Russia. The trucks travelled over 6,000 kilometres to reach their destination. The trucks were carrying the kinow variety of Pakistani oranges.

According to details, fourteen of the trucks reached Russian city Derbent, while the other two reached Grozny.

A special ceremony was organised to welcome the trucks which was attended by officials from the transport union, Russian customs and Pakistani embassy.

The journey has successfully exhibited Pakistani ability to reach foreign markets by road which will also prevent wastage of high-quality agricultural produce at home.

Statistics show that almost 40% of agricultural products are at risk of being spoiled due to lack of cold storage. However, reefer services can keep the products fresh even during long-distance travel.
