PCB bans Gauhar Ali for representing CAA in Patron’s Trophy despite being ineligible

F.P. Report

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has banned a player, Gauhar Ali, for representing Civil Aviation Authority’s team in the Patron’s Trophy Grade II tournament despite being ineligible to do so.

The department has also been slapped with a fine of Rs100,000 for violating the PCB’s rules for the tournament.

According to a statement by the PCB, the CAA was fined Rs100,000 for fielding an ineligible player. Ali has been banned from participating in all PCB or city/district cricket association-organised events for two years.

The CAA had fielded Ali in their nine-wicket victory over Pakistan Navy in the Patron’s Trophy Grade-II opener at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi from April 14-16.

The PCB has confirmed that following CAA’s win against Pakistan Navy in Karachi, Pakistan Navy had lodged a protest, complaining breach of 2(a) of the PCB Playing Conditions and Rules for Domestic Tournaments.

“The decision against CAA and Gohar Ali was announced today following a detailed enquiry in which it was proven that the player had accepted a CAA contract despite being a full-time employee of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police,” the PCB said.

The PCB decision also means the nine points, which CAA had gained, have been awarded to Pakistan Navy. The verdict has also knocked CAA out of the race to qualify for the final four of Patron’s Trophy.

Ali, a wicket-keeper batsman, was also a part of Lahore Qalandars in PSL 2019. He has played 70 first-class games.
