Players appeal Governor for announcing cash incentives

PESHAWAR (APP):Like other provinces, the medal winners’ players of FATA in the recently concluded Quaid-e-Azam Games Sunday appealed to the Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra to announce cash incentives for them.

They said this while addressing in a reception organized by FATA Olympic Association (FOA) in their honor here at FATA Olympic Office PSB Coaching Center Peshawar.

The players disclosed that earlier medal winners of National Games and Inter-Provincial Games and the first Quaid-e-Azam have been honored with cash prizes but this time they have been ignored.

They said that without honoring and encouraging the talented players no sports could be promoted.

They said that the youth of FATA badly needed such encouragement on the part of Governor KP Iqbal Zafar Jhagra.

Speaking on this occasion President (FOA) Shahid Khan Shinwari has also appealed to Governor KP to come up and honored the FATA medalist players. Besides him Secretary General Rehmat Gul Afridi, Secretary FATA Volleyball Association Khurshid Khan Mohmand and other office-bearers were also present.

Shahid Khan said that former Governor KP Engr. Shoukat Ullah had taken matchless steps for the promotion of sports in FATA. He disclosed that earlier all the medal winners were invited to Governor House and were honored with cash prizes.

He said annual grant for all the associations affiliated with FOA would be announced like it has in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa so that they could easily organized activities of their respective games by involving the youth of FATA.

He said the youth of FATA have been deprived from their basic right despite millions of funds allocated for the welfare and rehabilitation of FATA.

He said the FATA players have given good performances in the recently concluded Quaid-e-Azam Games held in Islamabad but neither any one from the FATA Secretariat nor Director Sports and Youth Affair FATA come up and appreciate them.

He appealed to Governor KP to direct the concerned quarters to hold a reception for the FATA medal winners in the Governor House.

He said such like receptions have been organized in Balochistan, Sindh, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and KP but no one come and appreciate the FATA youth.

“How we can address the deprivation of the FATA youth if not a single statement appeared for the appreciation of FATA players who excelled at national level by winning medals against top teams from other provinces,” Shahid Khan questioned.

Shahid Khan said that the FATA players have given good performance in various disciplines of the Quaid-e-Azam Games.

He said the FATA male players have won one gold, three silver medals and one bronze medal in Judo,

female players won one gold, two silver and one bronze medal, in the men karate Muhammad Aamir won gold medal in 55kg, Aurangzeb won bronze medal in 60kg,Abdul Salam won silver medal in 75kg, Shafiqur Rehman won bronze medal in 84kg weight while individual kata Abdul Samad Afridi, Shafique, Umar, Aurangzeb and Abdullah won bronze medal.

In the squash Sami Ullah won bronze medal, in the wushu Khalid Afridi won gold medal while Hamid and Zahoor won bronze medals, in the 110m hurdles of the athletic event Mansoor Ali won bronze medal, Khuzran won bronze medal and also silver medal in discuss throw. In the baseball event FATA won silver medal.

In the boxing event Haq Nawaz won silver medal in 56kg weight, Irfan Khan won gold medal in 91kg weight, in the teawondo 54kg weight Hidayat Ullah won bronze medals, Muhammad Shoaib won silver medal, Muhammad Nasir won gold medal, Noroz Din won silvder medal, Jibran won gold medal and Hikmat Ullah, Mazhar Ali won gold medals respectively.

In the female event FATA female won three bronze medals, in the men tennis singles Ilham won bronze medal while Ilham and Khalid won bronze medal in the team event. In the Volleyball FATA got bronze medal while in the weightlifting Imran, Hazran Khan and Usman won silver and two bronze medals.

He said this time the players of FATA despite meager resources shown excellent result in the Games and if these players would be encouraged they would show more good result in future.

Earlier, President FOA Shahid Khan, awarded gold medal to all the medals winners of the 2nd Quaid-e-Azam Games held in Islamabad.
