Postponement of girls’ schools damaging for state

KABUL (Khaama Press): United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reacted to the Taliban’s decision over not allowing girls upper than grade 6 to attend classes and termed the announcement as disappointing and damaging for Afghanistan.
Ministry of Education of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan on Tuesday just hours after schools resumption across the country announced that girls can only attend primary schools.
The decision has not only broken Afghan students into tears but has shocked people inside and out of Afghanistan.
Antonio Guterres in a press release expressed concern over the decision and called it disappointment despite pledges by the de facto authorities of Afghanistan regarding reopening all schools for boys and girls.
“The denial of education not only violates the equal rights of women and girls to education, it also jeopardizes the country’s future in view of the tremendous contributions by Afghan women and girls.” Reads the press release.
The UN Secretary-General has urged the Taliban to reopen schools for all students in Afghanistan without further delay.
