PTI and JUI-F term Feb 8 polls ‘rigged’

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: PTI and JUI-F on Thursday agreed on single point that the February 8 general elections were “not free and fair”.

Speaking to the media in a joint press conference, JUI-F’s Hafiz Hamdullah stressed that both parties agree that the February 8 polls were not transparent and were marred with rigging and irregularities. JUI-F leader Hafiz Hamdullah has said the party welcomed a delegation of the PTI led by Asad Qaiser for talks.

He said party chief Fazlur Rehman declared the meeting “positive” in the current circumstances. “Basically it was discussed that the case brought by the PTI on what happened in February 8 elections, was also a case from before of the JUI.”

He said Rehman had already announced that the party rejected the elections and did not represent the national mandate, adding that the PTI delegation presented the same case.

PTI’s Barrister Saif has said that a party delegation met JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman on the instructions of party founder Imran Khan to contact all political parties which were aggrieved by the irregularities in the conduct of the elections.

“PTI has announced that we will do a country-wide protest on Saturday and this process will continue because the JUI has also expressed doubts about the elections and their results and rejected them. “We have a joint point on which we are united,” he said. Saif said the parties would struggle, talk and continue their movement and protests together till the people received their rights.

Meanwhile, stating that both parties have rejected the election results, PTI’s Barrister Saif said that the party would move forward while remaining in contact with other political parties who deem the polls unfair. Sources said that PTI’s delegation offered JUI-F an option to join the party in its protests against alleged rigging in polls and Opposition in the parliament, in a meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

The two sides discussed matters related to government formation, while PTI also sought JUI-F’s support for its candidate for PM’s slot.
