ISLAMABAD: PTI chief’s Imran Khan has announced to hold a public rally in the federal capital to express solidarity with the judiciary in response to the excessive criticism being made by ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his aides

Addressing a press conference here after a meeting of PTI parliamentary committee, Imran Khan said that Nawaz Sharif is trying to paint himself innocent after robbing the public exchequer and taking looted wealth abroad. He said that Nawaz Sharif has only weakened state institutions for petty personal and political gains. “He [Nawaz Sharif] would have been in jail if the institutions were full functional and non-partisan. Failed state institutions renders any country backward.”

He said Sharif recruited his favourite officers on top slots of the government departments, particularly in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to cover his corruption.

“These officers in the government ranks have been protecting Sharif for years in tax evasion and other corruption cases, Khan alleged.

Furthermore, he said that Nawaz made one of his relatives [Ishaq Dar] finance minister, who helped him in money laundering using FBR.

Imran Khan vowed to hold a public rally in the federal capital to express solidarity with the judiciary in response to excessive criticism being made by ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Khan said he would explain the rationale for Sharif’s ouster, while alluding to Sharif’s popular slogan ‘Mujhe Kyun Nikala?’ (Why was I removed?). He vowed to hold a grand public rally in Islamabad to stand with the judiciary, adding, the date of rally would be announced later.

“I want to tell Nawaz Sharif the masses stand with the judiciary,” Imran underlined.

He also criticized Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and said the Punjab government staged fake ‘police encounters’. He said that Shehbaz Sharif got killed several people in fake encounters through a former cop Abid Boxer, who was wanted by the police in extrajudicial killings.

Responding to a question he slammed PM-N government stating that US move to put Pakistan on Financial Action Task Force (FATF) watch list is a diplomatic failure. Government’s incompetence has strengthened Narendra Modi’s narrative globally, he said.
