PTI nominates Azam Swati as Senate opposition leader

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Friday decided to nominate Azam Swati as its candidate for the Leader of Opposition in the Senate.

The decision to name the billionaire businessman was taken after detailed deliberation during a session of the party’s core group held at the residence of PTI chairman Imran Khan in Bani Gala.

Sharing the details of the meeting, Spokesperson PTI has stated that PTI will launch country-wide election campaign from 29th April. He said that campaign would be started from a grand gathering in Lahore.

Moreover in the meeting it has been decided to nominate Azam Swati as candidate for opposition leader in Senate. “Nomination of opposition leader in Senate is PTI’s right and till 22nd March the newly elected members have to finalize party affiliations”, Spokesperson imparted.

PTI expressed concerns over government reps’ statements about privatization of PIA and Steel Mill. Dr. Arif Alvi is directed to contact PIA and Steel Mill Unions. Furthermore anti corruption cell of PTI is also directed to reveal corruption scandals in Punjab, according to the spokesperson.

PTI makes it clear that it won’t accept PIA and steel mill’s privatization terming it a matter of national importance. Spokesperson stated that it’s a very serious matter and PMLN should leave it to the coming government.

Spokesperson said that Punjab government is involved in massive corruption just like the federal government. PTI reiterated its resolve to uproot corruption and in this regard anti corruption cell would keep a check on the development projects of Punjab to reveal the ruling elite’s corruption and make them accountable before the people.

In the meeting, the successful membership drive was lauded and central leaders were directed to visit different regions.
