PTI’s Salman Akram Raja released after being arrested during protest

LAHORE: Lahore police have released Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Salman Akram Raja after being arrested during a party protest on Saturday.

According to Punjab Information Minister Aamir Mir’s tweet, “During the protest in Lahore today, some miscreants including Salman Akram Raja tried to block the roads and take the law into their hands, who has been released after being detained.”

Earlier today, the police arrested PTI leader Salman Akram Raja during a protest rally in, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The PTI staged a protest rally at Jail Road against the alleged rigging in the recently held general elections.

The charged PTI workers raised slogans against the rigging where the police intervened and took Raja into custody.

In a post on X social platform, the PTI said its leader Advocate Salman Akram Raja, who contested the polls as an independent candidate backed by the party in Lahore’s NA-128 constituency, has been arrested in Lahore.

It termed the act “extremely shameful and disgusting”, calling for his immediate release.

The party also shared a video on its official X account of the Punjab police taking the lawyer into custody.

“They are arresting me unlawfully. I am with the public and we will continue to raise my voice for the truth,” he told reporters while being whisked away by the police.
