The shadows of Injustice in Kashmir

Shabid Ullah Wazir

On February 5, we are going to observe the day as solidarity day with the people of Kashmir. No doubt, Kashmiris deserve to have all political, diplomatic and moral support from Pakistan which they have got from their Pakistani brethren till date and will continue to get the same in the times to come.

The day will be remembered for the injustices being meted out to the people of Kashmir at the hands of Indian policy makers and the Indian Armed Forces.

And it is hoped that Kashmiris will one day come out of the dark era of India occupation and the sun of freedom will be dawned upon them. India has been bullying Pakistan to raise hand and shun the moral and diplomatic support of the Kashmiris and for this purpose, it has been constantly violating the LoC and the Working Boundary. The international community is a silent spectator.

David Cameron, the then British Primier, on January 3,2014, while expressing his dismay and  grief over the situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir once said: In this modern age in which we breathe, I don’t feel any ne-ed of measures like Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and Public Safety Act. It would be a matter of prudence on the part of Indian Policy makers to rep-eal them. The international community of which we too are a part will and can never dictate the two neighbors nor can anything be imposed upon both the parties, but India and Pakistan both should resort to negotiations to amicably settle the issue according to the aspirations of the Kashmiris.

There is an undenying fact that Kashmir, as per partition plan was to become part of Pakistan. The two conditions of geographical proximity and the majority opinion both favored Pakistan to get Kashmir as desired by the majority Muslim Population of the state, but the Maha Raja, in collusion with the then Imperial authorities played into the hands of Congress leaders resulting in  accession with India. Same was the fate of other princely states like Kujrat and JunaGarh. Might is always right and the same was proved in the case of Kashmir.

J.J. Rouseau, the famous French philosopher has epitomized human nature and the law of nature in his famous sentence: ” Man is born free, but he is everywhere in chains”. Absolutely right. Man is born free and is destined to be free. Artificial bars on his due liberty and freedom can never be imposed nor can they be everlasting. India, no doubt has attempted to crush the voice for freedom in Kashmir, but the voice is reverberating more vociferously and the demand for freedom and right of self-determination has emerged with great gusto. Newotn’s law of motion states that for every action, there is an equal reaction but opposite in direction. For India, this opposite direction is the momentum in the indigenous struggle for freedom.

The Kashmiris are peace loving people and had been struggling for their due right of self-determination from 1948 upto 1988. But when India imposed the draconian laws like AFSPA and Public Safety Act as a license and guarantee to the armed forces for their brutal actions ranging from house to house searches often during nights to tease and terrorize the populations, rapes, fake encounters and the last but not the least, the use of notorious pellet guns, only then the Kashmiris especially the youth threw the olive branches and picked guns to counter evil with evil. More than 100 thousand kashmiris have lost their lives in their struggle for due right of self determination.

India policy makers have been fast developing cordial ties with Israel which is evident from the recent visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyaho to India. Why India gives so much importance to ties with Israel? What is common between them? The answer is simple. One has occupied Palestine and the other Kashmir.

Both are using the same tactics. Both are aggressors and the enemy is common i.e. the Muslims.  India-Israel under the umbrella of US has developed a very dangerous strategic partnership which is seen to be primarily aimed at Pakistan and China.

India wants to give a shut up call to Pakistan on Kashmir. In Afghanistan too, US has left India scot free to extend and broaden its base to be used against Pakistan. The new US security strategy announced by James Mets, the US Secretary Defense some weeks ago, view China and Russia as threats to US security and terrorism has been placed on the back burner as the second priority. The echoes of new cold war are being heard from different quarters.

The world is fast polarizing in which US, India, Israel, Australia, South Ko-rea and Japan are to enter into strong defense allianc-es. Pakistan, China, Russia, North Korea and some Muslim Countries like Turk-ey seem to be on the other side of the divide.

In this new fitting, the international community seems not to be in a position to compel India to come to negotiating table with Pakistan and settle the core issue of Kashmir. But Indians are a timid nation.

A proof of this is the growing trend of suicides among the Indian Soldiers posted In operation areas. Indian Defense Minister Subhash Bhamray is his speech to the Rajya Sabha (upper House) confessed that every year, more than 100 soldiers and officers of Indian Army commit suicides or kill each others.

As per report of Amnesty International, Indian army personnel are suffering from mental disorders in Kash-mir. India has become the first country in the world w-here the ratio of suicides and killings of fellow troops and officers is on top. Comp-elled from the situation, India government has decided to appoint 33 Psychiatr-ists to treat the growing trend of suicides and ill-discipline in the India Army.

We live in a globalized world. Instability in any part of the world can lead to unrest in the whole world. It is the obligation of the international community to play their role in settlement of the Kashmir issue.

Kashmir is not only a core issue between Pakistan and India, but an international issue which need due attention from UN and international community. The Security Council must reinforce its resolutions on Kashmir if justice is to be dispensed with. The voice of Kashmiris cannot be suppressed by dint of force.

India must realize the fact that it can split from within any time if the injustices on Muslims in India and Kashmir are not stopped as half a dozen of separatist movements are underway in India. Implosion of India seems the final destiny of the Indian Union amidst fundamentalist Hindu mentality.
