SHEBERGHAN: Six Islamic State fighters were killed and 10 more wounded in a clash with the security forces in Darzaab district in Jawzjan province, officials said on Monday.

Islamic State gunmen attacked a local police checkpoint in Khawaja Ashkar area in Darzaab district, Jawzjan security in-charge Abdul Hafeez Khashi told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

Six armed men were killed and 10 more sustained injuries in the gunfight, he said. Seven police personnel were also wounded in the clash, he added. Security officials in Jawzjan said the Islamic State or Daesh gunmen have started attacking police checkpoints at night in Darzaab district over the past few days. The armed men were trying to capture the district, they added.

Meanwhile, Jawzjan provincial assembly member Maulvi Abdul Hai Hayat told AIP that Daesh gunmen have made advance movement in Darzaab and Qoshtipa districts. There was about 80 percent chance of the collapse of the district headquarters into the hands of Daesh, he noted.

However, security officials in Jawzjan said that the armed opponents, including Daesh had been damaged up to a great extent in these districts. No one would be allowed to capture the districts, he added. Jawzjan security in-charge said the concerns of people and provincial assembly members about the collapse of these districts were baseless. Two local police were killed and nine more injured in a similar attack of Daesh in Darzaab district the other night.

Meanwhile, the Islamic State or Daesh issued a press release on social media on Monday, saying two police personnel were killed and nine more injured in Darzaab district in Jawzjan.
