WASHINGTON (AA): U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday there will be new announcements on Syria within 24 hours, as the world awaits to see how the president will implement his decision to withdraw 2,000 troops from the region.
“We have a lot of great announcements having to do with Syria and our success with the eradication of the caliphate and that will be announced over the next 24 hours,” Trump said at a news conference, referring to the Daesh terrorist group.
In December, Trump made a surprise announcement that the U.S. would be withdrawing all troops from Syria, and said Daesh had been defeated in the country.
Since then, no troops have been withdrawn, however, last month the Pentagon confirmed additional troops were being sent to protect American forces and equipment as they prepare to leave.
