KABUL (TOLOnews): The World Meteorological Organization expressed concern over the economic crisis in Afghanistan and said that near to 19 million people are faced with food insecurity in the country.
Petteri Taalas, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization, said “we are witnessing the increase in food insecurity again in the world, more than 20 million people affected in Africa, 28 million in Latin America and the Caribbean, 19 million in Afghanistan and seven million in South Sudan.”
Meanwhile, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs said that they have requested the largest aid in the world in the current year for Afghanistan.
“Without women that actively engaged in the humanitarian operation, for example, we cannot reach women and girls with humanitarian aid, and you all know that women and girls are always the most vulnerable in Afghanistan due to the economic crisis, so we need the Taliban to change those edicts,” said Martin Griffiths.
Some capital residents said that due to unemployment they face challenges.
“We need humanitarian aid daily, we buy bread which costs 70 Afghani but that is not enough,” said Toryali, a Kabul resident.
“We ask the government to provide work for us,” said Dil Agha, A Kabul resident.
The United Nations has requested 4.6 billion dollars this year to help more than 23 million people in Afghanistan, and so far it has received only 5% of this amount.
