Zardari hopes ECP to hold elections as per constitution

KARACHI: Former president and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has expressed his confidence in the Election Commission of Pakistan hoping that the electoral body will hold general elections in the country according to the constitution.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the former president said that the ECP was bound to hold fresh delimitations of the constituencies after the new census.

“We repose full confidence in the chief election commissioner and ECP members,” he added.

Zardari called upon the interim government to put the country on the road to progress after completing projects under the Special Investment Facilitation Council at the earliest.

The PPP leader was of the view that the country was passing through an economic crisis, urging everyone that we should take care of the economy first instead of our politics.

“If the country exists then we will exist,” Zardari exhorted.

Meanwhile, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will launch his public meeting campaign starting today in connection with the forthcoming general elections in the country.

The former foreign minister will reach Hyderabad after passing through District Thatta and Badin.

According to the PPP spokesperson, the party chairman will visit different districts of Sindh today. He will hold a press conference at Mandhero House in Badin at 3 p.m.

Then the former foreign minister will leave for Hyderabad.
