KARACHI: Sindh Information and Labour Minister, Saeed Ghani has said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is organizing protest rallies of the farmers, which will be taken out in five districts of Sindh on Monday, January 24, against a shortage of fertilizer that could cause a shortage of essential food items in the country.
Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, Saeed Ghani said the protest rallies would be staged in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, and Karachi. All the protest rallies will commence at 2 pm on Monday. The protest rallies in Karachi to show solidarity with the farmers in the country will be taken out from districts West and Malir in Karachi, which would reach Kudadad Colony near Mazar-e-Quaid via Shahra-e-Faisal.
The provincial minister, who is also PPP Karachi President, said the leaders of the People’s Party would address the participants of the rally after it reached its destination. He recalled on the occasion that the PPP was the only political party in the country, which had recently organized countrywide protests against hike in the prices of essential commodities including petroleum products and shortage of natural gas due to incompetence shown by the present federal government.
He said that an unprecedented increase in the prices of essential products including petrol and medicines and gas shortage in the country had become the most serious problems faced by the citizens of Pakistan. He said that scores of the spokespersons of the present federal government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had completely failed to acknowledge this most important economic problem of the country.
Saeed Ghani said the ongoing agitation by the Opposition political parties against amendments to the local government law in Sindh had been a tactic to divert the attention of the people away from their genuine economic problems. Responding to a question concerning the ongoing protest sit-in of Jamaat-e-Islami outside the Sindh Assembly building, he said that they had never objected to the JI’s agitation but nobody had the right to block main roads in the city like University Road.
Sindh Information Minister said the blocking of such main roads in Karachi meant that those championing the cause of the general public ended up causing trouble in the lives of the citizens. He said that a large number of the lawmakers belonging to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf were willing to join the People’s Party as their inclusion in the PPP was possible at any time.
To another question, Saeed Ghani said the Sindh government would preferably take any decision to close the educational institutions in the problems due to alarming increase in the cases of coronavirus in view of the directions given by the National Command and Operation Centre for the purpose. He said the coronavirus Task Force in Sindh had been strictly reviewing the Covid-19 situation in the province as the health care institutions had not been facing any emergency due to increase in the critically ill patients.
