Adnan Jalil inaugurates 7th National Road Cycling C’ship

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Caretaker Minister for Industries, Commerce and Technical Education Adnan Jalil during a simple but impressive ceremony at the Northern Bypass Peshawar on Friday afternoon awarded medals to three female cyclists Rajya Shabbir, Rabia Gharib and Bisma Choudhry who won the preliminary round of the 7th four-day National Road Cycling Championship.

He also inaugurated this national championship formally. Apart from a large number of players and fans, Secretary Sports Captain (R) Mushtaq Ahmed, Director General Sports Khalid Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cycling Association President Nisar Ahmed and other championship organizers were also present on this occasion.

This 13.5 km cycling race is being played from February 17 to 20 in different stages wherein separate categories of men, women, children and students have been kept. Ten teams from across the country and a total of 113 players are participating in the championship.

The caretaker Minister appreciated the efforts of Secretary Sports and others for organizing this unique cycling championship, and assured that the provincial government will continue to encourage sports and other healthy activities at all levels.

He said that along with conventional education, comprehensive plans are being prepared to impart modern technical education and skills to the youth of the province and to develop their creative capabilities.

On this occasion, Adnan Jalil was also given a shield by the organizers for his outstanding services in various fields including promotion of sports activities as well as boosting trade and industry in the province.
