KABUL (Khaama Press): Roya Mahboob, the Afghan Girls’ Robotics Team leader and a pioneering entrepreneur, was honoured with the Courage Award this year by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Germany on behalf of the women of Afghanistan.
The “Courage Award,” known as the “Axel Springer Award,” is one of the most prestigious honours in Germany, presented annually to human rights advocates across various fields.
This award is being presented to Afghan women at a time when women and girls in Afghanistan have been deprived of their most fundamental rights since the beginning of the Taliban’s rule. On the other hand, women activists and advocates for women’s rights in Afghanistan have, in the past two years, demanded their rights through protests, urging the international community to recognize gender apartheid in Afghanistan.
On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the “Afghan Women’s Movement for Justice and Freedom” emphasized the alarming increase in violence against women in Afghanistan over the past two years through a protest gathering, describing the violence as “horrific.”
According to this women’s movement, women in Afghanistan have faced various forms of violence in the past two years, and no organization has been responsive to violence against women.
It is worth noting that despite the constraints against women, a handful of them have won various awards in various festivals, representing Afghanistan’s women.
