ANF arrests PTI’s Swat councillor over alleged drug trafficking

F.P. Report

SWAT: The anti-narcotics force on Saturday arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s councillor Hayat Khan from Kabal Tehsil of Swat over his alleged involvement in drug trafficking, confirmed police.

Khan is a known party leader of the area and was elected as a representative in the last local bodies election.

The arrest came on a day when the state minister for interior, Shahriyar Khan Afridi, promised the nation that he would eradicate the drug menace even if it costs him his life.

“I have told forces that there will be no compromise over the drug trade,” he said, “we have to be bold against the mafia. We will make them a lesson for others to learn.”

Earlier, reports emerged of the arrest of Afridi’s nephew, Talal Nadir Afridi, along with two other people for possession of half a kilogramme of hashish. The relative was jailed for a breif period of time but was later released on bail.
