ARCS facilitates treatment for 48 children

KABUL (Agencies): The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) has taken a significant step towards addressing pediatric heart health in the country.
The charity has facilitated the admission of 48 children diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defects (VSD), a type of heart defect, to two hospitals within the country for treatment.
According to an ARCS statement, the cost of surgery and treatment for these children is covered by the charity. However, there are still approximately 12,000 children with VSD registered with ARCS who are awaiting their turn for treatment.
Over the past 14 months, ARCS has introduced 1,771 children with heart defects to various hospitals for treatment and surgery. Of these, 1,500 children have successfully recovered and returned home, while the rest are still undergoing treatment.
