Asif to feature in cricket tournament

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan fast bowler, Mohammad Asif will feature in the 10PL Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament to take place in Dubai from March 19 to 23. Playing for Shehenshah Warriors, Asif will be a part of what is the second edition of the 16-team tournament, which takes place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

The former international cricketer played 23 tests, 38 ODI’s and 11 T20I’s for Pakistan before his international career came to a crashing end after in England on charges of spot-fixing during tests against England in 2010. Speaking ahead of the tournament, Asif appeared excited to be featured in the tournament. “I have played this form of cricket a lot on the streets of Pakistan.

Almost all of us have learnt a lot by playing this brand of cricket. I am hoping to pass on my experience to the rest of the squad and along the way, gain a lot myself. I cannot wait to get back on the field at the Sharjah stadium,’’ givemesport.com quoted Asif as saying. Other names likely to take part in the tournament include Sri Lanka’s Thilan Thushara and Chamara Silva.

There is also a number of Indians set to feature, including former Rajasthan Royals fast bowler, Kamran Khan. Earlier this week, brand ambassador for the tournament, former Pakistan bowler, Wasim Akram, unveiled the jersey, anthem and trophy for the tournament. The tournament boasts the highest prize money for tennis ball cricket anywhere in the world and is valued at a total of 250,000 Dirhams. All eyes will be on that front foot as Asif runs up to bowl once again.
