Bahadurs beat Fighters to win 2nd MCL title

PESHAWAR: Eventually, the month-long media cricket league (MCL) tournament concluded on Sunday after Peshawar Press Club Bahadur Team clinched the trophy by defeating PPC Fighter with 07 runs in  final match of the 3rd MCL tournament.

The media cricket league organized by Sports Committee of Peshawar Press Club was fully sponsored by Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) Peshawar. As many as 20 different teams consisting of 280 players of numerous print and electronic media took part in the tournament. At the concluding match at Gymkhana Cricket Stadium, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Shah Farman was chief guest on the occasion.

Beside KP Governor, Chief Executive Officer RMI, Dr.Shafiqur Rehman, Chairman PPC Sports Committee Qashifuddin Syed, President PPC Syed Bukhar Shah, General Secretary Zafar Iqbal, Senior Journalist Shamim Shahid, SSP Operation Zahoor Babar Afridi, captains of different cricket teams and a number of journalists were also in attendance.

Unbeaten PPC Bahadur team in its first batting scored 106 in 10 over while PPC Fighter tremendously played to chase the target but it failed to score 18 runs in final over of the match. However, the unbeaten PPC Fighter scored only 11 runs in final over and thus Bahadur wins the final match with 07 runs.

KP Governor Shah Farman as chief guest on event of final match of MCL tournament said that the last few years remained critical for journalists, police and politicians during dilapidated law and order situation across the province. “Now things have improved rapidly and its alive example is the current time concluded successfully” he commented.

While extending his full patronage, Governor vowed he would continue to support this sort of positive activities in which journalists are being provided recreational opportunities. He commented that such sort of healthy activities eradicate depressions and stress which is need of hour. He also announced Rs 50,000 for winner team, Rs 25,000 runner-up and Rs 10,000 for man of the match.

Earlier, Chairman PPC Sports Committee Qashifuddin Syed in his address said that it was the 3rd MCL tournament organized by PPC for journalist community. While crediting PPC Sports Committee, RMI and other relevant officials, he clarified that such sorts of activities would also be conducted in forthcoming time.

He lauded Provincial Minister for Sports, Tourism and Culture, Muhammad Atif Khan for inaugurating the MCL tournament and also thanked RMI, police and KP Governor for their unparalleled support since the beginning till the end. 

CEO RMI, Dr.Shafiqur Rehman in his speech reminded that RMI has been sponsoring MCL tournament since 2017 and promised it will continue its backing in coming time as well. He felicitated the entire management and journalists for taking proactive part in this tournament.

Later, KP Governor Shah Farman, CEO RMI, and Chairman PPC Sports Committee distributed trophies, shields and cash among winning, runner-up teams, man of the match, tournament and other players for their outstanding performance in entire tournament.

It is to be mentioned here that it was the third of its kind tournament being sponsored by RMI and PPC Bahadur defended the trophy this time as well.
