CM proposes extension of Swat Motorway from Chakdra to Mingora

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan on Sunday proposed extension of Swat Motorway from Chakdra to Mingora to the Federal government pleading it would help promote tourism, industry as well as generate opportunities of employment in the region. He directed the relevant quarters to send papers to this effect to the Federal government.

The decision to this effect was made in a meeting held in Peshawar with Mahmood Khan in the chair. Minister for Communications Akbar Ayub, Secretary Communications, Chief of Strategic Support Unit, MD Pakhtunkhwa Highways and others were also present on this occasion. The meeting was briefed in detail about the second extension of Swat Motorway i.e. from Chakdara to Mingora covering 41 kilometers with an estimated cost of rupees 31881 million.

Cost of the land to be acquired for this purpose and construction of the road include in the said estimated cost. Two interchanges, three bridges, 43 culverts and 27 underpasses are proposed in the said project.

Speaking on this occasion, the Chief Minister hinted the National Highway Authority would carry out the proposed project. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister was also briefed about new schemes of Housing Department, Nishtarabad Commercial multiplex, City Centre, Hangu Township, Swat Township and others etc. High Rise flates of Hayatabad and Jalozai housing scheme also came under discussion on this occasion.  

Furthermore Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has said that speedy completion of ongoing projects of prime importance was the priority of his government. He particularly directed that the buildings already completed in health sector should be utilized for delivery of services and these buildings should soon be handed over to the department concerned for this purpose, he added.

He was presiding over a meeting at CM Secretariat Peshawar. Provincial Minister for Finance Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Principal Secretary to CM Shahab Ali Shah, Secretary Finance Shakeel Qadir and other concerned authorities attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed and reviewed the due for completion ongoing projects in the province that included new block of Lady Reading Hospital, KTH Trauma Center, Cardiology Block HMC and a new building of central jail Peshawar. Different projects of PKHA, C&W and Irrigation were also discussed in the meeting.

Moreover Taking serious notice of the drug addicts staying under bridges in and outside Peshawar, the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has ordered to shift them to rehabilitation centers and hospitals saying it was the government’s responsibility to make them useful citizens and provide them medical treatment, food and necessary training etc.

In his directive, the Chief Minister said the KP government would rehabilitate and set them on a healthy and meaningful life pattern. He said like others they also needed attention of the government. He said that he has already issued directives for collecting data of the drug addicts which needed to be accelerated. 

Meanwhile, the Peshawar District Administration, Police and Social Welfare departments have conducted operations in various areas of Peshawar and shifted around 300 addicts to different hospitals. It may be recalled that the Chief Minister has already inaugurated a drug rehabilitation center at Faqir abad in Peshawar a few weeks back where these addicts would be lodged and rehabilitated.
