Court approves bail of PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: A sessions court in Islamabad on Wednesday approved the bail of PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry in a sedition case in lieu of a surety bond of Rs20, 000.

Judge Faizan Gilani, on the occasion, said he was granting bail to Fawad on the condition that he would not utter the objectionable words, which landed him in jail, again.

Fawad had been picked up from his Lahore residence seven days ago following registration of a case at Kohsar police station in Islamabad under sections 153-A (promotion of enmity between groups), 506 (criminal intimidation), 505 (statement conducing to public mischief) and 124-A (sedition) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

A judicial magistrate in Lahore later granted to the police one-day transit remand of Fawad, allowing them to shift him to Islamabad upon completion of his medical checkup.

In his tweet posted early this morning, Farrukh Habib wrote: “Fawad Chaudhry has been arrested by the police from his house. The imported government has gone berserk.”

Fawad Ch’s brother Faisal Hussain Chaudhry also confirmed his arrest.

He said some unknown persons came in vehicles without number plates and took Fawad with them without showing any arrest warrants or revealing their identities.

According to the FIR, Fawad had said that the Election Commission’s position was that of a clerk (Munshi). The PTI leader had further said ‘if you are so weak, go away and sit at your homes’.

The FIR further stated that Fawad Ch threatened the chief election commissioner and the ECP’s other members and their families.

Due to PTI leader’s speech, the lives of the ECP members and their families had come under threat, read the FIR.
