Court suspends arrest warrants for PIA CEO, others

LAHORE: The Sessions Court has suspended the arrest warrants issued to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Arshad Malik and three others in contempt of court case, on Wednesday.

According to details, the court issued a notice to the PIA top officers which sought replies from parties on April 20 while hearing a petition filed against issuance of arrest warrants.

The petition stated that the civil judge issued the warrants against law and facts.

Yesterday on Tuesday, a civil court in Lahore had issued arrest warrants for four top officers of the Pakistan International Airline (PIA) in a contempt of court case.

The court issued bailable warrants for officers who didn’t turn up before the court carrying progress report of the court orders.

The warrants were issued for CEO PIA Arshad Malik, Director Flight Operations Captain Aziz Khan, Chief Human Resource Officer Air Vice Marshal Subhan Wazir and Chief Pilot Captains Ali Zaman.

The officers are facing charges of not restoring Captain Mian Shehzad on his post despite the court orders. The petitioner had challenged his suspension in a civil court.

It may be noted here that the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Dec 29 – 2018, had dismissed four captains among 50 officials from service over holding fake degrees.
