Delay in BRT project completion: Business community faced 2 billion loss: Senator

PESHAWAR: Senator Jumaat-e-Islami, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan blamed the government for the huge irregularities and bad management in the ongoing Bus Rapid Transit project and demanded the National Accountability and Supreme Court of Pakistan to take notice of the anomalies in the project.

This he said while addressing during the All Parties Conference invited by Jumaat-e-Islami in Peshawar Press Club here on Friday. Ghulam Ali (JUI), Zulfiqar Afghani (PPP), ANP and a number Business Community OF Peshawar participated in the all party conference. He said that the ill-planned construction work of BRT project had put the lives of the people on standstill.

He expressed concerns over the insufficient and delay in the BRT construction work, which he said that the government at the time claimed to complete the work within the period of six months but even after the passage of two years it had yet not completed.

He said the financial irregularities were done in the project in such a big way which has no examples in the history and urged the NAB and Supreme Court of Pakistan to take notice of the anomalies.He added that the ill-planned project in which the public money had been misuse and the negligence on the part of the PTI leadership causes delay in the completion of the project.

He said that the BRT project was initiated with bad faith and with lack of wisdom it had made the metropolitan a no go area for the business community and common people due to everyday huge traffic jam.“Before the militancy and now BRT project has put a hammer blow on the business community in the province” he commented.

He claimed that due to the BRT project business community faced around 2 billion lost in the last two years and unnecessary taxations which had been imposed upon them pushed them towards the wall.He said that the business community of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is unable to run their business in the country due to huge lost in the business.

He asked the government to let off the business community from taxation for period of two years to provide them respite them for the huge lost due to BRT project. He also voiced concerns over the unprecedented price hike and said that government was shelling the people with petrol, power and gas bombs. He said that people ready to take to streets if government did not stop increase in the prices of daily use items.
