ECP decides to hold Senate elections on April 3

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold the Senate general elections on April 3, on Tuesday.

According to sources, ECP will hold general elections on 48 vacant seats of the Senate.

In this regard, the Election Commission has prepared the schedule for the general elections of the Senate, sources added.

Polling for the Senate elections will be held in the national and four provincial assemblies.

On April 3, twelve senators will be elected from Sindh and Punjab each and two senators from Islamabad while eleven new senators will be elected from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan each.

As many as 52 members of the Senate will retire on March 11 after completing their term.

After completing their term, 12 from Punjab and 12 from Sindh whereas 11 senators from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11 from Balochistan 2 senators from Islamabad and 4 senators from erstwhile FATA will retire.

According to the 25th constitutional amendment, there will be no re-election on the four senate seats of erstwhile FATA.
