ECP rejects Imran Khan’s petition against Ziaullah Afridi

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected the PTI chief Imran Khan’s request to disqualify the disgruntled minister and MPA Ziaullah Afridi after he joined PPP.

Imran Khan filed a reference on September 27 last year against Ziaullah Afridi and demanding disqualification of MPA disqualification from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and claimed that the MPA joined PPP and therefore ECP should announce disqualification of Afridi.

Last year in August 2017, Afridi had leveled allegations of corruption against KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and KP finance minister Muzafar Said.

MPA Ziaullah Afridi had also criticized Imran Khan and Sirajul Haq for keeping silence towards CM and finance minister illegal appointment of MD Khyber Bank and not taking action against them for their corruption.

A five-member bench of the ECP, headed by the chief election commissioner had earlier noted that Afridi had become a member of the KP Assembly on the PTI’s ticket. However, in today’s hearing, the reference was rejected in a split of 3/2 verdict.
