Executive’s credo and public need

The newly Throne Chief Minister KP, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, has recently revealed his manifesto after assuming office as the Chief Executive of the province. Ali Amin Gandapur termed the improvement of law and order as the top priority, vowing not to compromise it at any cost by equipping police and other LEAs with the latest equipment, arms, and ammunition on a priority basis. He noted that without peace, development, and prosperity are not possible because investment and economic activities require a conducive environment. According to him, Poverty Alleviation, welfare of the vulnerable segments of society, and addressing the issue of unemployment will come second, wherein development and uplift of infrastructure will rank third on the priority list of his government; for which steps would be taken under a well-devised strategy. The Chief Minister told the media that he had talked about necessary rectifications in the police system which should not be taken as intimidation for any individual. He did not believe in revenge but rectification and improvement in the system was his duty.

PTI’s Stalwart and Imran’s most muscular tiger finally reached the top slot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the real birthplace and power hub of Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf since day one. The newly elected Chief Minister KP is one of the most famous characters of the May 9 violence. He remained in hiding for months and is currently on protective bail due to his involvement in numerous cases relating to undermining public safety, disrupting law and order, and attacks against state institutions in the past. Apparently, the KP’s public gave the PTI another chance in love and trust for the former PTI Chairman Imran Khan otherwise the party failed to deliver to the public despite two straight victories in the province. Although there were several seasoned, well-educated, and politically mature candidates for the slot of Chief Minister, the White dove sat on the head of Gandapur due to his resolute support and fearless loyalty to the PTI Chairman in addition to his jingoistic personality that might be his strong point in the face of any future political confrontation with the opponents or the federation as well.

During his recent appearance to the media, the KP Chief Minister hinted at bringing reform in the Police Department as the Chief Executive himself and his party perceive that some government servants do not perform their official responsibilities as par with the law and the constitution and arrested PTI leaders and workers during and in the aftermath of May 9 carnage unconstitutionally. Several PTI leaders have openly shared these thoughts while the Pervaiz Elahi-led PTI government in Punjab practically took action against several Police officers and local administrators who arrested PTI workers during protests, road blockages, etc, or refused to comply with unlawful demands of the party. Gandapur termed his proposed measures as rectifications instead of intimidation but keeping the PTI’s history in mind and considering Gandapur’s personality it seems to be a vandalism with the system in place of rectification.

The nation reached this point after years-long stress, anxiety, and economic hardships due to unceasing turmoil and dogfights of the political groups over the past almost three years. The people of the province trusted the PTI and voted for Gandapur to provide them an opportunity to serve the nation instead of satisfying their personal enmity or the party’s tussle with the adversaries. Previously, the party missed the opportunity and could not implement its manifesto in true letter and spirit due to its unceasing confrontation with the center and premature ouster from the government. Historically, the majority of the incumbent political leadership in the center as well as the provinces have faced legal prosecution, suffered incarcerations, and are well-versed in ups and downs in politics. Every sensible leader knows that there is no positivity in confrontation, agitation, and unrest, while the months-long political tussle has brought the nation to the verge of collapse. Hence, civic groups and politicians must think about the country and the masses instead of their politics and power. Public service should be the priority of leaders, that will not only distinguish them from others but pave the path for greater success and victory in the future.
