KARACHI/RAWALPINDI: Relatives of slain Amjad Sabri gathered at his residence in Karachi soon after the news channels flashed the news that Chief of Army Staff has confirmed death sentences awarded to 10 hardcore terrorists, including killers of the Sufi Singer who was killed in the seaside metropolis.
“We are very happy, all members of the family have gathered and felicitating me, my mother and widow of Amjad,” Azmat Sabri, brother of the Sufi singer, told The Frontier Post, adding his mother was sitting by his side and very happily receiving greetings.
“First of all we are thankful to the police officials, especially Inspector General AD Khowaja and In-charge Counter Terrorism Department Raja Umar Khattab for arresting the killers of our brother,” Azmat told, adding the family was thankful to Rangers as well.
“We are thankful to Chief of the Army Staff for confirming the death sentences awarded to killers of our brother,” Sabri told.
Earlier, on Monday Chief of Army Staff confirmed death sentences awarded to 10 hardcore terrorists, who were involved in heinous offences related to terrorism, including killing of innocent civilians and attacking Pearl Continental Hotel Peshawar as well as Law Enforcement Agencies/Armed Forces of Pakistan, a statement issued by ISPR said. “On the whole, they were involved in killing of 62 persons including 5 civilians, 11 police officials and 46 Frontier Constabulary/Armed Forces Personnel. The convicts also include terrorists who killed renowned Qawwall, Amjad Farid Sabri”, the statement read, adding that arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession. These convicts were tried by special military courts. Besides, 5 convicts have also been awarded imprisonment.
Those confirmed for death sentence included Muhammad Ishaq S/O Muhammad Ibrahim and Muhammad Asim S/O Abdul Rehman. “Both the convicts were members of proscribed organization. They were involved in killing of a renowned Qawwall namely Amjad Farid Sabri and attacking the Law Enforcement Agencies/Armed Forces of Pakistan, which resulted in death of 17 officials. They were also found in possession of fire-arms and explosives. The convicts confessed their offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. They were awarded death sentence”.
Muhammad Arish Khan S/O Muhammad Aslam was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Pearl Continental Hotel, Peshawar, which resulted in death of 4 civilians. The convict confessed his offence before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
Muhammad Rafique S/O Hameed Khan was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Yousaf, Assistant District Officer (Frontier Constabulary) Karim Khan, Naib Subedar Fazal Wahid, Naib Subedar Muhammad Fayaz along with 16 soldiers and injuries to 3 other soldiers. He was also involved in the abduction of civilian Muhammad Ali, for ransom. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
Habib Ur Rehman S/O Khoba Gul was a member of proscribed organization.
He was involved in attacking Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Lieutenant Colonel Anwar Abbas along with 3 soldiers and injuries to 15 others. He was also involved in collecting funds for the terrorist activities. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
Muhammad Fayyaz S/O Gul Faraz was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Naib Subedar Fateh Muhammad, Havildar Pervez Iqbal, Havildar Basharat Ali, Police Constable Saleem Khan and 4 other soldiers. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
Ismail Shah S/O Nek Badshah was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in killing of Naib Subedar Nasim Khan and also attacking the Armed Forces of Pakistan. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
Fazal Muhammad S/O Abdul Mateen was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Armed Forces of Pakistan which resulted in death of Naib Subedar Fateh Muhammad, Havildar Pervez Iqbal, Havildar Basharat Ali and 5 other soldiers. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
Hazrat Ali S/O Muhammad Ali was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Havildar Wahab Ali and 3 other soldiers. The convict confessed his offence before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
Habib Ullah S/O Anwar Baig was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of a police constable and injuries to another official. He was also involved in the destruction of 3 Compact Disc Shops at Akora Khattak. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
