Father who sold four daughters still suffering from poverty

SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): A 60-years-old man in northern Sar-i-Pul province has sold his four minor daughters in last four years but still suffers from poverty. Jumma, a resident of Nohki village in the capital of Sar-i-Pul province, told Pajhwok Afghan News that he had sold his four minor daughters between 2016 and 2020 due to poverty; but his economic situation was still bad.
Living in a ruined room, he has prevented the ceiling from collapsing by installing 12 poles in the middle of his room, saying that he sold his young daughters because of poverty and hunger. He said that he used the money for providing food for his family members as they spent many days and nights in hunger.
Jumma said he was a farmer but suddenly his family’s economy worsened and they faced poverty. He said his wife was suffering from mental issues due to the loss of her young daughters. “Every time my wife gave birth to a child, I sold the baby for 10,000 afghanis at the age of 10 days to buy flour and oil with the money,” he said.
He added that he could not work as he was old and one of his sons was working against a very low wage to provide only bread for his family. He called on the government and charity organizations to help him and his family in finding a job so they would be able to get food and treat his wife.
