First coronavirus case confirmed in Swabi

SWABI: The first positive case of the coronavirus patient has been confirmed by Swabi Deputy Commissioner (DC), Shahid Mehmood here on Wednesday.

The ill-fated infected person belongs to Bada, a village in the mountainous region of Gadoon Amazai, Tehsil Topi and he had returned from Saudi Arabia on March 17. As he developed symptoms of the coronavirus he was admitted in the isolation ward, established in tehsil Chota Lahor civil hospital and his test was sent to National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad.

DC Mehmood told mediapersons that Khalid Khan’s coronavirus test received from NIH is positive and he has been under treatment in the Lahor hospital ward. Sources in the district health department said that two more suspected persons have also been kept in the Lahore hospital but their tests are still awaited, expected to be finalized within two days.

The earlier tests conducted of the nine persons belong to different region was negative, said the sources. Sources said that the entire family of Mr Khalid has been put on quarantine, his neighbours and his relatives would have to go under immediate test to contain spread of the deadly disease in the district.

When contacted, a health department official said that after the first positive case of the deadly virus their responsibilities have been increased manifold but the people cooperation and following the given vital instructions are extremely important and very helpful in the preventing the outbreak of novel coronavirus in the district. ”The district administration has taken numerous measures for controlling the spread of the disease,” he said.
