Govt committed to ensure excellency: Jhagra

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister Finance Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensure excellency in every sphere of public service delivery and reforms agenda pursued in various sectors to have visible footprints of change.

Speaking at  Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inking ceremony for launching diploma in procurement sector between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Procurement Authority (KPPRA) and IM Sciences on Friday, he said the main objective for launching  certificate/diploma program by KPPRA was to achieve the goal of capacitating the government officials in public procurement process and to provide procurement certified professionals to the market with special focus on public sector procurement so as to ensure transparency, timeliness and value for money.

Finance minister said that capacitating government functionaries in professional fields was directly proportional to better public service delivery and engaging academia and practitioners for the purpose is in line with reform agenda of the government.

The ceremony was attended by Managing Director KPPRA Muhammad Ayaz, Director IM Sciences Dr. Muhammad Mohsin, faculty members and officials of KPPRA.

MD KPPRA Muhammad Ayaz said the program was aimed for public sector personnel as well as private sector and the students seeking future career opportunities in the sector. IM Sciences would mainly provide the logistic support and KPPRA had developed course contents and would oversee the program as a whole, he added.

Muhammad Ayaz maintained that World Bank through Governance & Policy Project (GPP) recently agreed to finance one dedicated batch from officers/officials of the newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to help them in bringing at par with other areas of the province in terms of capacity building priorities of the government.

Director IM Sciences Dr, Muhammad Mohsin said KPPRA had already signed a MoU last year with IM Sciences for the launching of procurement certification leading to diploma program and this ceremony was logical end of that MoU. 

Mr. Taimur Saleem Jhagra in his concluding remarks said that the Officers after completing the course successfully would, on one hand become fully aware of the rules of Regulations regarding procurement and ensure austerity in the financial resources of the province on the other hand.

He said the Provincial Government was ensuring to use every penny of the Government exchequer judiciously and In the welfare and development of the people of the province. He said KPPRA was doing valuable services in this regard.
