Hamza Baba, a bacon of inspiration for new generation: speakers

LANDI KOTAL: Speakers at a ceremony here on Sunday said that three decades back,  Hamza Baba had passed away but still he remained a source of inspiration for generations of Pashto poets and writers.

The daylong event was organized in Jirga Hall, Landi Kotal; district Khyber, under the auspices of Khyber Pakhto Adabi Jirga, to mark the 30th death anniversary of famous Pashto poet fondly known as Baba-e-Ghazal and attended by large number of the poet lovers.

The literary activity was headed by Prof Dr Yar Muhammad Maghmoom while Prof Dr Qasim Mehmood was the chief guest on the occasion.

The gathering consisted of Seminar and Mushaira.

In the first session Prof Dr Yar Muhammad Maghmoom, Prof Dr Salman Taseer, Prof Dr Mohib Wazir, Dr Sarfraz shed light on various aspects of Hamza Khan Shinwari and said he was the Rehman Baba and Khushal Baba caliber poet in twenty century.

Dr Tawab Masroor, head of Khyber Pakhto Adabi Jirga presented a number of resolutions pertaining setting up seminar hall, posting of librarian, preservation of the poet personnel use commodities etc. in Hamza Baba complex.

Poetry reciting (mushaira) session poets including Prof Dr Qasim Mehmood, Feroz Khan Sadiq, Kohat Khan Zakir, Fazle Maula Torakai, Murad Ali Murad, Nazir Muhammad, Ithebar Khan Ithbar, Almas Khan and others from different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Afghanistan was also held and the participants’ poets amused the audience by reading their poems.

The participants admired and acknowledged great services of Hamza Baba, rendered for the uplift of Pashto language and paid rich tribute to him through their prose, Pashto verses and ghazal recited on the occasion.

Hamza Baba who is remembered as a pioneer of Pashto modern ghazal passed away on 18th February, 1994.
