LONDON: Heathrow has recorded its highest-ever September figures, with more than 7 million passengers travelling through the London hub last month.
The latest figure exceeds the previous September 2019 record, which clocked around 6.8 million passengers, and is 22 per cent higher than passenger numbers from September 2022.
It also marks the first time that monthly passenger figures have exceeded 2019 levels since pandemic-induced travel restrictions were introduced in February 2020.
The airport’s recovery comes as outgoing CEO John Holland-Kaye prepares to hand the baton to his successor Thomas Woldbye on 18 October after almost 10 years in the top job.
Holland-Kaye said: “It has been a privilege to lead the very talented team which in less than a decade transformed Heathrow into a hub airport that the whole nation can be proud of.
“We have built a solid legacy for my successor: Heathrow is now a customer service business with a clear path to net zero by 2050 and a plan to grow and to connect all of Britain to global growth,” he added.
