IEA denied guterres’ remarks on economic crisis in Afghanistan

KABUL (BNA) The Ministry of Finance of Islamic Emirate has strongly denied the statements of the UN Secretary General António Guterres on the economic crisis in Afghanistan as groundless.
The ministry said that Afghanistan is in stable economic condition and it was able to fully fund its annual budget from domestic revenue for the first time in two decades.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan urged UN to observe its neutrality about Afghanistan and work for the release of frozen assets of Afghanistan as well as removal of sanctions on the country’s banking sector.
Mr. Guterres, while addressing a two-day meeting on Afghanistan in Doha last Tuesday, claimed that 90 percent of Afghans are suffering from poverty with around six million people are on the brink of famine.
