F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Rumours are rife that former interior minister and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) stalwart Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan is expected to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after widening differences with party leadership.

PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan, while refusing to make any confirmation, has said that PTI chairman Imran Khan genuinely appreciates Nisar’s principled stance.

“This is not just the childhood friendship that has been rekindled between them. Imran Khan truly likes Chaudhry Nisar’s principled stance,” said Ali Khan on Thursday while speaking during ARY News show ‘Powerplay’ hosted by Arshad Sharif.

He said that Nisar was one of the few who had taken a stance within their party, and distanced himself from the Dawnleaks fiasco, and the narrative by Nawaz Sharif after he was outed as prime minister.

He said the time was ripe for Chaudhry Nisar to decide on which side he was, and it was a lifetime opportunity for him to join hands with Imran Khan.

Imran Khan had on Thursday invited the former interior minister to join the PTI, saying that he had known him since over four decades.

Imran had also appreciated Nisar’s stance for taking a stance against Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who wields immense influence withing the PML-N despite have no official position.

Nisar has held five recent meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif including one on Thursday and is reported to have progress on resolving several differences.

Shahbaz has made several efforts to woo back Nisar, but it is known that Nisar has expressed a desire that Nawaz Sharif should instead visit him.
